The " short slate " roof repair.
The quick and easy, and wrong, way to repair a broken or missing slate.
Many inexperienced roofers will use the cheapest and easiest to obtain slate to repair a roof. This repair was made with a piece of gray slate. Very low quality compared to the Vermont green and purple slate originally used.
The original slate was also 22" long. Somewhat hard to find in a local roofing salvage yard. The shorter slate means there is no headlap,( coverage under the slate course above). This was taken care of by inserting a piece of tin sheet metal between the slate courses.
